LEGO® City | Ice Cream Truck

03.13.2020 – Summer season has finally arrived in the Philippines despite the climate changes in the weather with a little bit of rain the heat is certainly on and when the temperature rises it shows many locals would find ways to stay cool. Of course, simple things like having a cold icy treat is definitely good.

Sometimes let the ice cream comes to you in the form of an Ice Cream Truck ready to bring in all the cool icy goodness to beat the sweltering heat. LEGO® introduces a new addition to the ever expanding food truck theme with this Ice Cream Truck!

In the early days Ice Cream Trucks carry simple ice cream as residence back then don’t have freezers in their homes. But that slowly evolved in some ways considered a ‘novelty truck’ in some parts of the world as these custom built vehicles are not common in some countries like in the Philippines.

Usually, the Ice Cream Truck can be seen in the road during the summer season and often seen parked at public events, or near parks, beaches, or other areas where people congregate. Ice cream vans often travel where children play outside and even seen nearby schools, in residential areas, or in other locations. They usually stop before moving on to the next street.

The new addition to the ever expanding LEGO® City range is mostly populated by emergency responders or law enforcement certainly adds the Ice Cream Truck, which gives more diversity to the theme. This is just the second mobile food service set LEGO® ever to produce following the Pizza Van that was introduced in 2017.

With this new set for 2020 you get to see a new motif in the box and LEGO® is also introduced the LEGO® Building Instructions app, where once you unboxed this set the instruction manual that came with this will have a QR Code that is ready to be scanned if you prefer putting together this set using a digital manual.

Of course, you may need to download the Instruction PLUS app either Android or for your iPhone depends what mobile device you prefer. There will be some additional surprise builds for some sets, but this one doesn’t have any though it helps in case you might accidentally have thrown away the instruction manual to have this as back up.

The Ice Cream Truck with the set number 60253 contains 200 pieces that includes two minifigures and a dog has enough fun details when you put together this colourful build. There’s are some interesting elements once you put together this Ice Cream Truck that has room for the ice-cream lady to work and drive, plus a skateboarding customer with a cute dog, there's plenty of scope for independent role-play fun.

Just like the real world Ice Cream trucks along the sides, a large sliding window acts as a serving hatch, and this often displays pictures of the available products and their prices as part of the details, which you apply from the colourful sticker sheet. There are soft ice creams served in this one and also you can find it once you open the other side of the truck as well as the removable roof.

You can find the comparison between the Pizza Van and the Ice Cream Truck thematically works well, while the later looks like more built with a wide angular look and the other with a higher ceiling and narrow rounded shape. It’s not far fetched that there would be more Food Trucks in LEGO® City in the future. This Ice Cream Truck, however is unique that doesn’t have a real world counterpart having that huge appendage on the roof.

Overall the Ice Cream Truck is one set that you may need to add in your ever growing city as a compliment to those who already acquired the pizza van in the past. It has all the aesthetics of the real life truck that served some sweet icy treats minus the large ice drop installation that seems fictional. Entirely, a good set that’s quite a favorite in Manila, which is considered uncommon that, was only sighted in some stores.

LEGO® City 60253 Ice Cream Truck which was retailed for ₱1,499.75 Pesos ($45.47 AUD**) in the Philippines available in general retail. It was sold in Australia for $22.00 AUD (₱725.68 Philippine Pesos*).
