LEGO® Star Wars 75048: The Phantom!

10.14.2015 – Star Wars Rebels is all set to premiere with a new episode for season 2. LEGO® recently revealed some new sets coming for 2016, which will include a new Rebels set featuring Kanan Jarrus.

But before the new animated series was introduced it started with the introduction of Ezra Bridger and C1-10P aka Chopper back in 2014. They where included in the Star Wars Rebel set which featured the ship known as The Phantom!

2015 is the year of Star Wars not only ushering the second season for Star Wars Rebels, but also the highly anticipated “The Force Awakens” which will be in Philippine cinemas on December 16, 2015. The transition of Star Wars after being acquired by Disney in 2012 is almost complete as you noticed most of the LEGO® sets for 2015 are now depicting the “Disney” font in the corner box.

This includes the new Star Wars Rebels sets, but for the 2014 sets that introduced The Phantom as the introductory set doesn’t carry the “Disney” font. But it’s introduced as part of the Star Wars subthemes followed by the now iconic Ghost Freighter that connects with this set but more about that later.

The Phantom Cometh

Taking a closer look of the Phantom it appear like your average shuttlecraft, but its one of the smaller transport ships for the Ghost Crew when they conduct their missions since the Ghost Freighter is a little bit large to be used for their operations.

Designated set 75048 contains 234 pieces and includes two minifigures featuring the force sensitive Ezra Bridger and the ‘cranky’ astromech droid C1-P10 nicknamed Chopper. The box features a new design having the “Star Wars Rebels” logo in the lower right hand corner box to distinct itself from the other Star Wars sets that were released in the same year.

Unboxing, Building, and Rebelling

The set contains two number bags and within those bags have smaller bags, a decal sheets and the instructions to put together the Phantom. Most instruction sets tells you to open both bags and mixing them up but this time even though this is a small set you build the parts separately.

Not all sets have prints in them and LEGO® did include a decal sheets for specific pieces where you apply the logo and other sticker elements to the parts of the ship. For a quick builder this won’t take you more than thirty minutes to have this built.

Not Average Ship

The Phantom in the animated series can transport all six characters featured in Star Wars Rebels. In LEGO® form you can only transport two as the back part can only store Chopper in the cargo hold, while the back hatch can only accompany Ezra Bridger’s cadet helmet and blaster. This Phantom can fire a projectile weapon, which can be found on top of the ship that’s fixed.

In this set Ezra Bridger has yet to be revealed as a would-be Jedi for the reason his only accessory aside from the cadet helmet is a blaster. It could have been a slingshot but that’s good enough to give this young man a blaster. Chopper can only be found in this set as an exclusive while Ezra Bridger has a second figure that have his lightsaber, which can be found at 75090 Ezra’s Speeder Bike that also includes a helmet-less Sabine Wren.

The Phantom is under scaled but earlier this year someone made a LEGO® MOC (My Own Creation), which takes inspiration directly from the TV series that can carry all six minifigures. It’s unfortunate this one is not big enough, but it can connect with 75053 The Ghost where it can dock in the ship’s rear.

Overall build as any LEGO® set is challenging at the same time fun, but the set was mediocre when it came to accuracy. You can understand the reasons why due to cost of the pieces and how it would be sold for someone who only into Star Wars Rebels. For an average builder this is enough build and playtime with lots of hours of appreciating the little things that made this set special.

Star Wars Rebels 75048 The Phantom contains 234 pieces which includes 2 minifigures retailed at $24.99 US acquired in Adelaide South Australia in December 2014 at Big W for $35.00 AU Dollars.
