LEGO® Minifigures 22 | Snow Guardian

The LEGO® Collectible Minifigures Series 22 has been slowly appearing on select store in Philippine retail, and most of it has already been sold out. It has been one of the popular collectibles from LEGO® since its introduction way back in 2009, which some of the characters command great value.

With all that some you may find non-completest to focus on their personal favourites. In the past two years the number of figures presented in each series has been reduced from 16 to 12 to complete, which is more convenient to collect them conveniently.

So far the most recent CMF series that’s a non-license range of characters has been evidently sold out just a few weeks from the toy shelves. Locally in the Philippines only Toys R’ Us carry this wave as per agreement with LEGO® distributor Ban Kee Trading, which you’ll notice some of the CMF series like the Looney Tunes can only be found at Toy Kingdom while the Disney and Marvel were also exclusive to Toys R' Us Philippines and Rustan's.

The CMF Series 22 as mentioned have been sold out, but weeks before its availability in late March/early April there was one minifigure from this series that’s been getting considerable attention, and that’s the spotlight here with the Snow Guardian.

Ancient Folklore Origins

This unnamed character only known as the “Snow Guardian” is probably based from the origins of Jack Frost without naming it directly as most CMF figures don’t have a specific name, but is named due to its description, occupation, and appearance. The aesthetic and apperance might have been inspired from the folklore based from the Anglo-Saxon and Norse Winter custom.

In all of the twelve characters presented, this Snow Guardian largely standout despite in some countries not having a winter season such as the Philippines and most of Asian countries in the nearby region. The minifigure contains eight pieces excluding the standard stand that comes with it. Some of its parts like the hat and the furry white piece that covers his shoulder is unique to this character.

While the shield is familiar being used for Captain America it now comes in grey with a new print symbolizing a "Snow Flake", and the sword is distinctly new, but it's not as this was first introduced with the Tournament Knight from Series 20. Previous swords dating back to the LEGO® Castle theme has a shorter sword design, but this is known as the Greatsword that is an accessory included also for the 21325 Medieval Blacksmith.

Besides the appearance, accessories, and the doggo companion, this minifigure has two face prints that is uncommon for a minifig having new elements exclusive to this minifigure. This makes it even more interesting that really caught everyone’s attention among the other eleven characters of this series.

Also unique to this minifig is the dog, a Siberian Husky breed with a lighter grey print with bright blue eyes, as previous variant comes in darker grey with black eyes compared to this one paired with the Snow Guardian, which adds a mystic of this fantasy character.

Army Builder Guardian

It's not uncommon for a minifigure to be made to be army build, but some take to the extreme without knowing their limit how many should they get out of the same character. It may sound controversial to the point a few individuals in Metro Manila is only hoarding this specific character. Based on reports from word on the retail scene that mentioned an unidentified individual bragged about grabbing all six of this figure in one store, isn't that enough for an army?

For the reason it is unfair for everyone that would want to complete a set who won’t be able to, because that certain individual has already army build a group of Snow Guardians tracking them down in every TRU store that carries Series 22, either for the intent of the “resale value” (A favourite word by the local collecting toy community) or for their other personal beneficial reasons. This should be taken to attention for Ban Kee or Toys R' Us Philippines that they need to step in and control the sale of this figure, not just to make a sale to one individual, but for everyone who wants to complete a set.

It is a hilarious story for anyone who don't collect these minifigures, but someone out there has kept all the Snow Guardian for themselves. There are some incomplete sets of CMF 22 in the Philippines. You may army build two or four of the character, but going to these TRU stores and getting them all is unethical. But based on additional reports as of this writing, Ban Kee would restock and bring in more of series 22 due to high demand. Hopefully, they make sure to control the minimum allowable sale for this character, and have one for everyone that wants to complete a set that they need.

At the end of the day, this Snow Guardian is just one of the popular characters from CMF 22, and there are eleven other characters too. So far this minifig stands out not because of the commotion behind it, and being the original interpretation of Jack Frost’s folklore, but how unique for its design.

LEGO® Minifigures 71032 featuring the Snow Guardian is one of the 12 characters from this series, which is retailed at ₱ 279.00 Pesos ($ 7.18 AUD | $ 5.35 USD **) distributed in the Philippines by Ban Kee Trading exclusively sold at Toys R' Us.
