MIAS 2022 | Brick Built Ferrari 512 M

The Ferrari 512 M is one of most important cars in their racing history, which was a later model follow the Ferrari 512 S. It is being raced at the iconic Le Mans, which competed with Ford GT-40. This V-12 powered race car is not just an icon, but it is a prototype produced by Scuderia Ferrari.

LEGO® has produced the 512 M under the Speed Champions sub-range of licensed cars from all over the world, and it is the current kit that is released for 2022. This car was also produced in a larger brick-built scale that is on display at this year’s MIAS!

Contrary to the hype prior to the opening of this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) in the Philippines, the brick-built Ferrari 512 M dubbed as 1:1 scale that was printed in the motoring section in one of the local papers promoting the said event. But as it is revealed, the brick-built set is not even close to the actual car’s scale, though it is worth noting that it is large enough to attract the general public.

Originally, the Ferrari 512 M is a later successor to the 512 S, which was previously produced by LEGO® in collaboration with Shell as one of the giveaway promo in 2014, which is completely in micro scale of the more improved model of the 512. The “512” name itself is given due to being a five-litre 12-valve engine and the “M” stand for “Modificata” or translated to “Modified” that the later models of this car is almost resemble the Porsche 917.

The brick-built LEGO® Ferrari 512 M despite not being a 1:1 scale as locally promoted it still has 78,496 bricks and weighs at 280 kilograms, which was built for 480 hours (20 days, not including breaks) by LEGO® builders that were assigned to create intricate and impressive sculptures. This is considered a LEGO® sculpture that that was put together and a closer look, the design team did made them using bricks contrary in the past, where the wheels are real while the rest are made of bricks.

This display is impressive enough that every person or a group of people pass by wanted to have a photo of this iconic racing car. Every detail you see put together is made of bricks down to the flat headlights and how the engine sits in the rear with the rear square spoilers. Of course this model has a metal frame inside to hold the bricks together just like the previous brick sculptures that have been seen in other events.

There’s no word when you’ll ever see this again after MIAS 2022, but in case you want one on your desk or for your display there’s a smaller scale available on retail under the LEGO® Speed Champions range retailed at ₱ 1,299.00 Pesos ($ 33.56 AUD | $ 24.95 USD), which includes a minifigure that drives this insanely awesome car!
