Toy Expo 2018 | 5 LEGO® Philippine Themes

08.24.2018 – Big LEGO events in the Philippines has become the norm since 2008. It has changed and evolved over the years when it comes to which community has been tied-up in collaboration of LAJ, the Philippines sole distributor for the LEGO brand.

For this year’s Toy Kingdom Toy Expo their presentation focus on Philippine culture as that is mostly people will get related to and with that AFOL Manila, the recently formed community has team-up with LAJ marketing to present this massive diorama display that you’ll find in the next three days at the SMX Convention Centre.


Toy Kingdom Toy Expo has been an event held every other year from 2012, 2014, 2016, and for 2018 which is the biggest trade show in the country. It is where some of the participating toy brands and properties release their latest products before they hit the retail toy shelves.

For the LEGO booth and exhibit the attraction is the impressive well-detailed diorama which was set up by AFOL Manila in collaboration with LAJ Marketing. Besides the massive display Philippine themed MOCs (My Own Creation) they are also having a special clearance for their LEGO sets from 2017 and below which is at 50% percent off and with every purchase you get a special LEGO Spider-Man freebie too.

So far there are a lot of cool builds and display that is presented at the LEGO booth, but for those who may not have the opportunity to visit this event here are five interested Filipino themed builds that you’ll find in this diorama.



“Sorbetes” (Dirty Ice Cream)

Every Filipino calls it ‘dirty’ ice cream as the man sells his cheap cold soft serve in every street in Manila. It is a traditional variation of an Ice Cream and one of the common things you might rarely find nowadays in the Philippines, but four hungry Troopers of the empire can’t deny how mouth watering and delicious this ice cream can be!



The Iconic Jeepney

Currently, the Jeepney is slowly being phased out in the streets of Metro Manila. It has been one of the reasons that contribute pollution and unsafe to travel these days. But back in the day they where built from World War II surplus Jeeps left by the Americans that was converted into small buses that ruled the streets, which is as colorful as you can see them from a far and most modern iteration even have this annoying laughing horn to boot!



The Karabaw Wagon

Before the industrial age in the Philippines there was the Karabaw Wagon that pulls a cart which is was the common thing back in the day. They are the alternative transportation by the Filipinos aside from horse drawn wagons. These days you can only find them in provinces, which is slowly being a rare thing for those who can now afford automobiles.



“Bahay Kubo” (Nipa Hut)

The roof is made of strong straw material and it’s the simplest living space back before the industrial age in the Philippines. It is an iconic house of many Filipinos in the province and there was even a song about it. The LEGO version build by one of the members of the community task to set up this diorama knows the elements that came with the iconic Filipino home in this display.



The Malacañang Palace

If the Americans have the White House, the Philippines have the Malacañang Palace it’s where the President of the country resides. It was built by the Spaniards during its occupation and has become the resident of home the elected President. It is located near the Pasig River as to compare to this LEGO version beside a train track. It is one of the places should a tourist make the visit to this country to see the actual place.
