| 08.03.2019 – Opening day at Fun Con brings A LOT of first look at the LEGO brand presented by Ban Kee toys taking over from previous distributor since 2006. You get to see not only the promotion of the LEGO CITY theme as the forefront of the exhibit but also the exclusive sets that you can only find at a LEGO Store.
This event launches three main sets that they have been promoting prior to the event namely the LEGO Idea Steamboat Willy, Creator Expert featuring the Apollo 11 lander module and a special LEGO set featuring Stranger Things. |
It is great to new LEGO sets back on retail as previously reported first sighting back in 8 May 2019 as noted with the transition that started early this year, which leaves most of the LEGO sets released during the first quarter of 2019 unviable as only the4 second quarter sets made it on Philippine retail.
There’s a lot of excitement for Fun Con not only for LEGO, but also the release of a Darna figurine from Funko Pop distributed by Bigboys Toy Store, but also the special release of the Glow-in-the-Dark Jollibee in a Barong from Hobbiestock Collectibles.
LEGO City Activities
But one of the main highlight of the event was the LEGO brand’s first event by Ban Kee Trading Inc that bring back this construction toy to the local scene. The primary activity area involves the whole family not just kids as small build areas are set up while the primary façade is promoting the LEGO CITY theme.
There are three activities of the CITY theme sets that encourage kids and their parents to be interested with LEGO namely the “New Epic Rescues” and they are:
The Fire Truck Rescue that allows you to shoot the flames in saving the burning harbour part of the city using the Fire Engine from the Downtown Fire Brigade (60216).
The second part of the activity for the CITY theme is the Parachute Arrest (60208), where your child’s skill is tested using the Police Plane in capturing the ATV using the plane’s hook underneath.
The third and last activity is the Parachute Target, where you need to throw the Police Parachuter to the corresponding target that is set up on the floor. The minifigure and parachute is also from the Parachute Arrest Set.
Free Build and Raffle
The other activity builds is for children where they build a special set from the mini display and all you need is you sign up with the assigned staff. The other sign up is for a raffle for you to get the chance to win the Stranger Things set.
Of course, the retail price point of this set is really expensive in the Philippines which goes for PHP 17.999.75 Pesos | $502.64 AUD** | $343.44 USD** (Original Retail: $199.99 USD or PHP 10,481.58**) that is certainly something of a worthy take home prize if you’re the lucky raffle winner.

The rest of the available sets are also on display and you can find it here in this event. But for those going to miss out on the LEGO experience you’ll find the current sets now available at local retail with the special sets that were launched in this event are now available at Certified LEGO Stores in Metro Manila.
Fun Con is held at the Glorietta Main Atrium and will rin from 2-4 August 2019 and FREE ENTRY, it is an open event.
