LEGO® City | Wildlife Rescue Hovercraft

LEGO® City is an ever evolving and the longest running theme for the Danish brand. From the Town System as far back in 1979, which featured the modern minifigure that has grown to adapt and take inspiration in the real world.

With countless sub-themes with the LEGO® City there’s more room to evolved, and with the addition of wildlife that introduced animals big and small chances are there are also some sets that are “taste testers” to those who haven’t had a set based on this particular series that’s based on the featured animals.

The set no. 30570, Wildlife Hovercraft Rescue was introduced as one of the many polybags released for 2021. The basic build as well as featured characters in this particular sub-theme from LEGO® City that mainly focus on animals, and with this sort of introductory set you get an idea where this is going.

For a small set that has 35 pieces it is mainly marketed for kids introducing them to the wildlife that includes two types of minifigures, namely a monkey and the explore/rescue driver for the hovercraft you build in 14 steps. This also the first Wildlife subtheme to be introduced prior to the rest of the sets that’s based from it.

Wildly Underrated Set

Just like most of the polybags released for the Philippine they are not sold on retail. But can only be acquired for a specific amount of purchase unlike it was sold in other countries, and this Wildlife Rescue Hovercraft is no exception for being featured as a GWP for the month in a specific retail store.

The polybags released in 2021 have a diverse theme this is one of the underrated sets that has been more featured as a GWP in most retail stores not only at Toys R’ Us, but it depends on whose collecting this specific subtheme it still have some unique pieces included that have a monkey minifigure.

Hovering Craft Vehicle

The simple build for the hovercraft takes you 14 steps with some interesting pices unique to this set including the printed front slope tile that has the logo of the Wildlife Rescue that is also printed in the back of the minifigure. Despite not having enough details and ‘rolling wheels’ underneath this is fairly an engaging impulse set for kids.

It has a working propeller in the rear and the steering handle held by a clip allows the minifigure to adjust up or down to show its driving the said vehicle. The side skirts are made from the roof tile slopes in black convincing enough to ‘hover’ with smooth dark grey round pieces underneath in case a kid rolls them on the carpet.

A Monkey’s Rescue

Every set big or small has a story to tell and teach young kids in building the Wildlife Rescue Hovercraft. Of course, the hovercraft won’t interesting if there’s no explore and a monkey to play out that narrative depicted in the polybag’s packaging. The monkey is different from the previous version introduced in the Pirates theme from the late 1980s. This modern version have no moving parts and it is entirely a solid piece with details on the face.

With the minifigure included you get the wildlife rescuer wearing a hat with no alternate hairpiece in keeping with the piece count to keep also the cost down. Despite the missed opportunity for that particular accessory they did not scrimp on the torso print in LEGO® giving you a quality character included.

Overall the build is simple with a fair dinkum of quality put into the set that includes a unique pair of minifigures like the wildlife rescuer, an animal, and accessories for something worth as a GWP in a retail store that is an additional parts if you don’t look beyond has having it as a display piece.

LEGO® City 305070 Wildlife Rescue Hovercraft was released in selected markets and this was part of a "Gift with Purchase" promo in the Philippines when you purchase any LEGO® City set worth ₱2,500 Philippine Pesos ($65.88 AUD | $ 45.50 USD)* in 2022 taking this home as incentive for FREE.
