Speed Champions | Ford Mustang Fastback

05.18.2018 – The 1968 Mustang Fastback is an iconic car for Ford Motors Corporation. It’s identified as one of the first generation Mustang but with sportier in appearance besides reaching pop culture status when it was featured in Steve McQueen’s Bullitt.

LEGO has the Speed Champions theme and features mostly circuit cars of the up market ones that you hardly see in the streets. This is the not the first time that LEGO has produced a Mustang as a set, but knowing Ford known as one of the everyday car it has its own heritage with its classic Mustang GT Fastback.

The Mustang GT Fastback has was cemented itself has part of Ford’s heritage when it comes to classic muscle cars. It paved away for the ‘muscle car’ identity that set the inspirations also for future of the Mustang GT name as LEGO previously produced a set that’s based on the modern version.

The Fastback Build

This set number 75884 contains 183 pieces mostly in dark green and features one minifigure in its classic racing gear. The build is quick and easy to follow as opening the box containing four plastic bags, a loose base piece which would be considered the base chassis of the car, a sticker sheet and instruction manual.

Building the set would take you 45 minutes tops for a novice, but for an experience builder will take you less than that. Besides building the car there’s also a digital time board that you put together. The minifigure includes a wrench as an accessory where most of the Speed Champions sets have.

Classic Mustang

For this build less decals where applied to see the difference. The only sticker used is for the front emblem with this tricked out pony this looks cleaner save that the white pieces that side of the door panes shows that you need to put a sticker there.

The rest looks clean but the car doesn’t look entirely green it’s a two-toned Mustang that has black on its top. Minus the racing stripes it looks like an ordinary road car than having the stickers applied. It looks well without the usual sponsor stickers and its racing stripes makes it look more of what some fans like the most of this set

Chasing the Bullitt

Overall as iconic as its real counterpart LEGO would consider an alternative with the Speed Champions, but this will do for now being not a perfect translation from the source material. Like all the racing cars produced they’re practically longer.

But the details and the streamline aesthetics of this LEGO translation of the 1968 Mustang GT Fastback is something of a favorite for most of those who are into cars and its certainly the reason why they move from the shelf than the Ford Fiesta M-Sport Rally car. But that’s another story to share for now this one is the set to get.

“1968 Mustang GT Fastback” from LEGO® Speed Champions set number 75884 is one of the latest to be release for 2018, which was acquired at KMart in Westfield Marion for $19.00 AU Dollars.
